When I saw this trapeze mini dress from UO, I wasn't sold right away. While the neckline and back details are to die for, the silhouette is pretty close to resembling a baby doll nightie - and that's not always the most flattering look on me. What kept me from saying no? Not having anything like it in my closet.
I love a flowy dress as much as the next girl, but most of the black dresses in my closet are of the skintight or cinched-waist variety. Not wanting to pass up a style challenge, I knew that this was going to be a new addition to my closet. Since all the details were pretty delicate and feminine-feeling, I played that up with a cutsie headband and then went the opposite with my shoe choice. Nothing says badass like a scuffed up pair of Docs.
All the textures from the dress to the shoes to the Barse pieces were so different from one another, I thought my patent leather backpack from Harper Ave would go against the grain even more. And that's what personal style is all about, isn't it? Going against the grain? I don't dress for the sole purpose of being different - that isn't the point. The point is to express myself. To experiment. To wear what feels right. And DUDE, does this look feel right.
